These trips are designed to help youth (ages 14-18) to learn to control and manage anxiety, depression, and addictive behaviors. These 4 day trips include: 1) Mindfulness & Anxiety Management Seminars morning and evening with Mark Basil, renowned Clinical Exercise Physiologist, Corrective Exercise Specialist & a lifestyle coach and Randy Thompson, licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 18 years experience working with adolescents on a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, attachment & relationship issues, 2) Service experiences providing service to families in need, 3) A visit to an orphanage to play with and show love to a special group of orphans, 4) Sunday worship and “How to find and eat spiritual food that is taylored to your taste” Devotional with Brad Christensen, founder Spark of Hope Foundation, 5) Individual breakout counseling sessions as requested throughout each day, 6) Eating at the 2nd best taco stand in Tijuana, and 7) A Mexican fiesta with professional, traditional Mexican performers and abundant Mexican food.
Day 1: Cross border, unpack at dormitory, go to service projects, visit orphanage. Days 2-3: Wake to singing, workshops and food. Work on service projects. Evening activities and workshops. Day 3: Finish projects and cross the border.
The dormitory “Chispa” has bunk beds with mattresses, toilets, showers, a kitchen, electricity and secure parking. Depending on family sizes and the number of families that come, each family will get a private room to use. We eat most of our meals in this building.
Breakfast: Beans, eggs, tortillas, quesadillas, and cold cereal for the littles
Lunch: Burritos, Tacos, Tortas (a Mexican sandwich)
Dinner: Enchiladas, Tacos, Tostadas, Chicken with beans and rice, Mole,
Other: etc.Snacks, water, gatorade are provided throughout the day and evening.
Framing, painting, sheetrock, mudding, roofing, plumbing, tiling, electrical, shovel work, …
You do not need any experience in doing these things. We will train you on the job.
Dinner and performances from locals (dancing, singing, music), beach, night games, …
You are responsible for all costs of travel to and from Tijuana and while in Tijuana.
Special insurance for your vehicle is required and costs approx. $30/day.
We will cross the border together. It is a fun experience that can last 30 minutes or 4 hours. People over 18 years old need a passport. Those 18 and under need proof of citizenship (drivers license or a copy of a birth certificate). You can read more about this here.
Your trip fee is 100% tax deductible because we are a 501 (c)3 pro bono, non-profit organization.
Your donation will be used mostly for building materials.
In addition, it pays for food, Chispa building upkeep, entertainment and to help ongoing Spark of Hope Foundation initiatives.
Participants must be 14 - 18 years old to attend this service trip.
